Western Bay Emergency Response Fund | Acorn Foundation FAQ'S What is the Bay Strong Appeal, and where does the money go? Bay Strong is a fundraiser created and run by 95.8FM The Breeze Tauranga, to raise funds for the Western Bay Emergency Response Fund to support communities across Tauranga Moana and the Western Bay of Plenty affected by the severe weather event. All funds raised are distributed to charitable organisations that have supported the immediate emergency, or are supporting the community during the recovery. This includes the community groups, marae, and charities that have a charitable purpose as recognised by the Charities Commission, who are working directly with people and communities in Tauranga Moana and the Western Bay of Plenty. As with all money raised into the Western Bay Emergency Response Fund, Bay Strong funds are only able to be distributed to charitable organisations. The Western Bay Emergency Response Fund (WBERF) was created between five local entities: Acorn Foundation, Bay Trust, TECT, Tauranga City Council, and Western Bay of Plenty District Council.
